Bird Houses
Not sure which nest boxes are right for your area? Several factors affect whether or not your nest boxes are occupied by wild birds.
*Entry hole size is very important as is the location of that hole, relative to the top of the box. For example, if the hole is too close to the bottom, by the time adult birds have built-up the nest material, the babies may be so close to the entry, they will be picked off easily by predators.
*Also worth considering is the size of the interior area. Some boxes may be universal, and will serve many different species. Others are more species-specific. Please visit our information page for full details, including articles on appropriate nest boxes and bird conservation.
*In most climates, wooden bird houses are best, as they provide better insulation against extreme cold or heat. Conversely, bird boxes made of metal will have the opposite effect and are not recommended. If looking for decorative bird houses, be mindful of the building material used; their attractive form may not be very functional. Check out our line of recycled bird houses and feeders! Not only are they good for the environment, they never crack, split, or fade!
